Car Check
Type in a UK registration to review available MOT, mileage and valuation information. Your first AI Car Check is free; AI Buy Score and Would I Buy It? require current mileage and asking price.
What a car check actually shows you
A car check turns a registration into a picture of a vehicle’s recent life. With AI Reg Check you enter the plate and the AI Car Check reads the available data for you, rather than leaving you to squint at raw tables. In one pass it covers the core things a buyer cares about: the vehicle details (make, model, engine, fuel and specification), the full MOT history, a mileage timeline built from those MOT readings, a valuation, and ownership context such as how many keepers the car has had.
Where eligible, the AI Buy Assessment includes an AI Buy Score and “Would I Buy It?” assessment. Both current mileage and asking price must be supplied. It is decision support — not a guarantee and not a replacement for seeing and driving the car.
Why run a car check before you commit
Most problems with a used car are invisible on the forecourt. A tidy paint job hides nothing about a jumpy mileage record; a confident seller cannot change what the MOT database says. Running a car check first lets you walk into a viewing already knowing the awkward questions to ask — why an advisory keeps reappearing, why the annual mileage suddenly dropped, or whether the asking price sits above or below the market.
- Spot patterns in the MOT record — recurring advisories, corrosion, or a run of failures.
- Sense-check the mileage — the timeline should climb steadily; sudden dips or flat spells deserve a question.
- Know the value — compare the seller’s price to an independent valuation before you negotiate.
- Understand ownership — a high keeper count on a young car is worth understanding.
How AI Reg Check works
Enter the registration, and the AI Car Check assembles available vehicle data. Supply both the car’s current mileage and asking price to receive the eligible AI Buy Assessment, including its AI Buy Score and “Would I Buy It?” assessment. Asking-price analysis compares the supplied price with available estimates; advertised prices are not confirmed sale prices. Your first check is free, so you can try it on a car you already know before trusting it on one you don’t.
A worked example
Say you’re looking at a five-year-old hatchback advertised at £9,500. The AI Car Check shows a clean, consistent MOT history with only routine advisories, a mileage line that rises steadily to a sensible total, two former keepers, and a valuation that suggests the advertised price is in line with the available estimate. Any eligible assessment is decision support, and provenance information (finance, write-off and stolen markers) is part of the separate Full Vehicle History Check.
When to upgrade to a Full Vehicle History Check
The free AI Car Check is ideal for shortlisting and early triage. Once you’re serious about a specific car, upgrade to the Full Vehicle History Check (£14.95, or £99.99 for a 10-pack if you’re comparing several). It looks for outstanding finance, insurance write-off markers and category, stolen vehicle markers, mileage discrepancies, keeper information, registration (plate) changes and import/export records — provenance details shown where available. Review and verify any significant result before making a decision. The report is decision support; always pair it with a physical inspection.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the car check really free?
Your first AI Car Check is free. After that, single AI checks cost from 99p, with multi-packs that lower the price per check. The deeper Full Vehicle History Check is a separate paid report.
What do I need to run a car check?
Start with the number plate. Enter or scan the registration to see available vehicle data. To receive the AI Buy Score and Would I Buy It? assessment, provide both current mileage and asking price.
Does a car check tell me if there is outstanding finance?
Finance, write-off markers, stolen markers and mileage discrepancies come from the Full Vehicle History Check (£14.95, or £99.99 for a 10-pack), not the free AI Car Check. The AI check focuses on MOT, mileage, valuation and buying context.
Is AI Reg Check the same as an HPI check?
No. AI Reg Check is an independent tool and is not HPI, the DVLA or any official body. "HPI check" is a common name people use for a full history report — our equivalent is the Full Vehicle History Check.
